Why Pet Stains Need Professional Treatment

Pet stains are more than a surface problem. When a pet has an accident on your carpet, urine soaks through the fibres and into the backing and even the subfloor below. Standard household cleaners can remove the visible stain but rarely eliminate the odour-causing bacteria hiding deep in the pile.

The reason DIY methods fail is simple: ammonia-based or general purpose cleaners can actually intensify pet odours rather than neutralize them. Old stains, even ones you thought were long gone, can reactivate in humid weather and become noticeable again months after the original incident.

Our professional enzyme-based treatment works at the molecular level. Enzymes break down the uric acid crystals responsible for the characteristic ammonia smell, permanently neutralizing the odour rather than masking it with fragrance. This is the only method that truly eliminates pet odours instead of covering them up.

Our Pet Stain Removal Process

We follow a four-step professional protocol for every pet stain treatment:

• Inspection: we use UV light to identify all affected areas, including stains that are not visible to the naked eye. Many pet owners are surprised to discover how many spots show up under UV that were never noticed before.
• Pre-treatment with enzyme solution: we apply our professional-grade enzyme solution to each identified spot and let it dwell for 10-15 minutes. The enzymes begin breaking down uric acid crystals immediately on contact.
• Hot water extraction: after the enzyme pre-treatment, our truck-mounted equipment flushes the area, removing the broken-down contaminants along with the solution. This leaves carpets clean and nearly dry.
• Odour neutralization: for severe or recurring odours, we apply a final neutralizing agent that targets any remaining bacteria and protects against future odour.

Pricing

Pet stain and odour treatment is $35 per spot when added to a regular carpet cleaning service. This covers all four steps of the process for a single identified area up to approximately 30cm in diameter.

Common Pet Stain Questions

How long does the treatment take?

Most pet stain treatments add 20-30 minutes to a standard carpet cleaning appointment. Multiple spots can be treated in the same visit.

Is enzyme treatment safe for pets?

Yes. Our enzyme solutions are non-toxic and completely safe for dogs, cats, and other household pets. Carpets are safe to walk on once dry (approximately 8-12 hours after treatment).

Can old pet stains be removed?

Old stains are more challenging but can still be treated successfully in most cases. Stains that have been treated multiple times with household cleaners can be harder to remove as residue builds up in the fibres. We recommend professional treatment as soon as possible after an accident.

What about urine odour that comes back in summer?

This is extremely common. Uric acid crystals are activated by heat and humidity, which is why old odours resurface in warm weather. Our enzyme treatment permanently breaks down these crystals, so the odour cannot return once the treatment is complete.
